What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-shaped coverings that Dr. Maali artistically designs and carefully bonds to the front side of teeth in your smile zone. Made of either dental porcelain or composite resin materials, veneers are an effective way to mask a single damaged tooth or a mouthful of cosmetic flaws. Generally, they are used to address teeth that are chipped, gapped, misaligned, misshapen, stained, or undersized.

The Process of Getting Porcelain Veneers

Before you receive your veneers, Dr. Maali will first need to examine your oral health. Making sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough to support veneers is the first and most important step. Once your oral health is certain, you can discuss what you want to achieve with dental veneers. This is your chance to talk about what you do and don’t like about your smile. With the information you provide, Dr. Maali will design veneers that are just the right size, shape, and color for you.

Placing your veneers necessitates two appointments. At the first appointment, Dr. Maali will need to remove a thin layer of your enamel. This permanent alteration to your teeth ensures that the veneers look natural in your mouth and fit smoothly alongside your other teeth. Once this step is completed, we’ll take an impression of your teeth. This will be used by our dental lab to fabricate veneers that will adhere seamlessly to your teeth. We’ll use these impressions to give you temporary veneers to wear while your permanent veneers are being made.

In about two weeks, you’ll return to our Orlando dentist’s office where Dr. Maali will make sure each veneer looks natural and fits perfectly before adhesively bonding them. With your veneers in place, you’ll have an awesome smile that makes you happy and confident.

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Veneers have become quite popular throughout the years due to their numerous benefits. Here are just some of the ones you can expect to experience:

  • Natural Appearance: The materials used to make veneers appear just like natural tooth enamel.
  • Quick Process: Veneers can be placed in as little as two appointments.
  • Permanent Whitening: Veneers are more resistant to staining than natural tooth enamel, so you won’t need to worry about discoloration from pigmented foods or beverages.
  • Long-Lasting: When cared for properly, veneers can last upwards of 15 years before needing to be replaced.

Porcelain Veneers Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking to give your smile the royal treatment, it’s hard to go wrong with veneers in Orlando. This customizable treatment has helped countless people – including many of your favorite Hollywood stars – achieve flawless smiles. Before you begin the treatment process, it’s normal to have a few questions or concerns first. Our Sand Lake Dental team members want you to feel 100% confident in your decision to transform your pearly whites, so we welcome you to ask any and all questions you may have. In the meantime, we’ve answered some of the questions we hear the most often below.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

One of the primary reasons why people choose to get veneers is to have all of their visible teeth match. Different people will need different number of veneers to make that goal a reality, but this number is almost always even so that the results are symmetrical. Most patients end up getting veneers placed over their “social six” – the six teeth that show the most prominently in their grins. Some patients may end up needing eight, ten, or even twelve veneers to create a uniform smile. Of course, you’re also welcome to get a single veneer if there’s only one flawed tooth in your smile. When you meet with your cosmetic dentist in Orlando for a veneers consultation, we’ll recommend the right amount of veneers for you to bring your dream smile to life.

Are Veneers Permanent?

Eventually, veneers will need to be replaced, making them technically not permanent. The process of preparing your teeth for veneers, though, is considered irreversible. To ensure the shells fit properly against your teeth, our dentists will need to shave a slim layer of enamel from the surfaces of the teeth. Once enamel has been lost, it cannot grow back. Moving forward, these teeth will always need to be protected with veneers or other dental restorations, such as crowns.

Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?

After we’ve placed your permanent veneers, they should feel completely natural within your mouth. In fact, many of our patients who have gotten veneers have admitted to forgetting they even have them; that’s how natural they feel! This is partly because dental porcelain feels remarkably like enamel, but also because of the preparation we did before placing your veneers. Removing a sliver of enamel helps the veneers fit within the line of your smile, as do the precise impressions we take.

Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?

Possibly, but it depends on the severity of the bite issue at hand. Because veneers cannot adjust the position of the teeth’s roots within the jaw, they’re not the most effective method of fixing severe cases of misalignment. However, if you only have a mild problem with your bite, veneers can make your teeth look wider and longer, giving them the appearance of lining up correctly. They can also close minor gaps between the teeth. In any case, we only recommend veneers for bite corrections that impact your appearance but don’t create significant oral health concerns.
