Dental Crowns & Bridges — Orlando, FL

Flawlessly Repair or Replace Damaged Teeth

Dental crown and fixed bridge restorations on tableWhen a tooth is damaged—whether by injury, decay, or even normal wear and tear—restoring that tooth is imperative. With dental crowns or bridges from our Orlando, FL dentist, your smile can continue to function and be whoel and healthy. Depending on the degree of damage, Dr. Maali may recommend a dental crown or fixed. This dental crown—also known as a dental cap—encases an entire tooth to protect and reinforce the tooth. Dental bridges attach a replacement tooth to surrounding teeth using dental crowns.

A dental crown is often the preferred restoration for a tooth that is:

  • Severely cracked and in danger of splitting
  • Broken or fractured
  • Extensively decayed
  • Compromised by a broken filling or existing crown
  • In need of protection and added strength after root canal therapy

Although there a few choices of materials for Orlando dental crowns, Dr. Maali prefers an all-porcelain crown. Not only is this material strong and durable, it also provides a very natural appearance that mimics both the color and translucence of your natural teeth.

Dental Crown Process

Animation of dental crown placement processWhen you come to Sand Lake Dental for a porcelain crown, you’ll need to schedule two appointments. At the first appointment, we’ll take an impression of your teeth in order to create a mold that our dental lab will use to build a crown that fits perfectly next to your adjacent teeth and against the opposing tooth. This precision is necessary for your comfort and in order to maintain your natural occlusion. At this appointment, Dr. Maali will also prepare the tooth for a crown by reducing its size. Once again, this is to ensure a perfect fit once the permanent crown is in place. After the tooth has been prepared, we’ll take another impression and create a temporary crown for you to wear while your custom-designed crown is fabricated. This impression will also be sent to the lab.

Usually, two weeks are required for the dental lab to create your permanent crown. You’ll then return to our dental office where Dr. Maali will remove the temporary and cement the permanent crown in its place. If necessary, he will smooth any raised surfaces so your new porcelain crown feels completely natural.

To extend the life of your crown, try to avoid biting down on hard objects such as ice cubes or pens and pencils. To clean your crown, simply brush and floss just as you do for your natural teeth. With proper care and little bit of caution, your dental crown from Sand Lake Dental should give you years and years of happy and healthy smiling.
